Disabilities
CHSA’s main focus is on physical disability typically stemming from four causes:
- 20% are trauma-related (motor vehicle accidents, violence, sports injuries, etc.)
- 15% have medical causes (stroke, illness-related amputations, etc.)
- 46% were born with congenital conditions such as Cerebral Palsy or Spina Bifida
- 6% suffer from degenerative conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, or Fredericks Ataxia
Socio-economic profile
80% of our beneficiaries are reliant on the Government Disability Grant as their sole source of income. The remainder are supported by some combination of the Road Accident Fund, private insurance policies or family support.
